Sandbox Overview

What Is the Sandbox?
The Westpay Sandbox is an interactive test environment that lets you explore and validate your ECR (Electronic Cash Register) integration with the Westpay Online API — without needing a physical payment terminal.
It consists of two connected tools running side-by-side in your browser:
| Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
| ECR Simulator | A demo point-of-sale application that sends real API calls to the Westpay backend |
| Terminal Simulator | A virtual Westpay payment terminal that receives and responds to those API calls in real time |
Together they form a complete closed-loop test environment: the ECR Simulator sends a payment request, the virtual terminal receives it, and you control how the terminal responds — all without touching production systems or physical hardware.
Requesting Sandbox Access
Sandbox credentials are not the same as production credentials. To receive a dedicated sandbox environment:
- Contact the Westpay Support Team at support@westpay.se

Ocp-Apim-Subscription-Keyheader) - A Bearer Access Token (merchant token for
Authorizationheader)
- A Subscription Key (
Note: Sandbox credentials grant access to the QA environment at
https://qa-api.westpay.se. They are entirely separate from any production keys.

What You Can Test
The sandbox covers the full transaction lifecycle supported by the Online API:
- Terminal linking and unlinking — register a virtual terminal to your merchant account
- Purchase requests — initiate a payment and observe it arrive on the virtual terminal
- Transaction status polling — track the payment result through its lifecycle
- Approval and decline simulation — control the terminal's response to test both outcomes
- Cancellation — cancel an in-progress transaction
- Connection states — simulate a disconnected or offline terminal
- Error handling — reproduce validation errors, auth failures, and API error codes
Getting Started
Once you have credentials, open the sandbox at /sandbox. You will be prompted to enter your Subscription Key and Bearer Token before proceeding.
